Playing in Tampa: what to know before you go

Tampa spreads its courts around

Unlike Naples or Cape Coral there is no single mega-facility here. Rowlett Park in North Tampa and Macfarlane Park in West Tampa both have 8, and the rest of the city runs on 4 to 6 court neighbourhood parks. Pick by neighbourhood, not by size.

Downtown play is a real option

Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park has 6 courts right on the river, and Cuscaden Park in Ybor has 6. Both are unusually convenient if you are staying downtown.

Summer afternoons belong to the storms

Tampa sits in one of the most lightning-prone corridors in the country. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily in July and August. Morning play or an indoor club is the answer.

The clubs ring the city

Ace Pickleball Club in Lutz, Pickle Social Lounge in Northdale and The Pickleball Academy in Oldsmar are all in the northern suburbs rather than the city core.
